Author of sociological publications

Professor of Sociology at the Stellenbosch University for more than 31years and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Letters

Stephanus Petrus Cilliers was born on 2 October 1925 in Senekal, Orange Free State.
He studied at the Stellenbosch University where he obtained the following degrees: BA, MA, LLB and DPhil. He was also a student at Cornell and Harvard Universities in the USA.

He was professor of Sociology at the Stellenbosch University for more than 31years until his retirement in 1990.
He was the director of the Kleurling-Ontwikkelingskorporasie and a member of the
South African Academy of Art and Science, The Association of Sociologists of Southern Africa and fellow of the American Sociological Society.
He was awarded the Stals Prize for Sociology 1981, several international awards and a Doctor honoris causa of the Stellenbosch University

S. P. Cilliers died in 2002.
