Bok Wassermann

Author of medical text books
Professor of Internal Medicine at the Tygerberg Hospital, University of Stellenbosch, 1972 - 1992,
and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine

Hercules Petrus (Bok) Wassermann was born on 24 August 1929 in Port Elisabeth rom Hoërskool Cillié (then Lawson Brown).
He studied Medicine at the University of Pretoria (BSc.,MB, Ch.B) and at Stellenbosch University (MMed, MD).
1967 - 1972: Director of the Pigment Metabolism Unit, MRC
1972 - 1992: Professor of Internal Medicine at the Tygerberg Hospital, Stellenbosch University.
1986 - 1987: President of the SA Medical Association
After his retirement in 1992, Wassermann continued to work at the Tygerberg Hospital and at the Museum of Medicine. He was a member of the Commission of Medical Terms, Woordeboek van Afrikaanse Taal.
Bok Wassermann was married to Cora for fifty years. They had three sons and a daughter.
He died on 7 January 2004.

Bronze Medal of the Federale Raad van die Mediese Vereniging van Suid-Afrika, 1988
