Playwright and author of dramas and children's plays
Director of the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival

Pieter Johannes Fourie was born on 3 April 1940 in Philipolis.
He studied Afrikaans and Dutch at Stellenbosch University (B Hons)
1964 - 1966: On tour with his own theatre company
1967 - 1987: Artistic Director at KRUIK
1987 - resident dramaturge at TRUK. He is now Head Director of the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival.
Pieter Fourie has directed over sixty plays and also acted in some. At the age of 77 he published his poetry debut, knapsekêrels.

Awards:

1976: Drie Blare Award for his direction of Pavel Kohout's So 'n liefde
1986/87: SAKRUK Prize for Die Koggelaar, which also received the
Dawie Malan Prize for best local drama in 1987
Johan Nel Prize for important contributions to South African Theatre
Honorary Award for stagecraft 1996
Hertzog Prize for his complete drama ouevre, 2003
Doctor honoris causa, University of the Freestate, 2011
