Poet and playwright

Marius Titus was born on 26 August 1946 in Stellenbosch. He studied at Hewat, Battswood and UWC (University of Western Cape). Marius taught (at Driehoek, Elsenburg and Rietenbosch schools) for 29 years until 1996, when he retired to dedicate his life to writing and theatre. Marius is a member of the Breughel Theatre in Stellenbosch. He took part in the popular Bekgevegte/ Poetry Slams (founded by Louis Esterhuizen and Henning Pieterse ) and other poetry contests. His musical comedy was presented by the Breughel theatre group under the direction of Martinus Basson at the HB Thom theatre in December 2003.His poetry was published in magazines and is included in the following collections:
Groot verseboek, De Afrikaanse poësie in 1000 en enige gedichten, Poskaarte, Nuwe verset and As die son kom oogknip.
Marius is married to Nelda and they have two boys, Marius and Anton.

Stap een: Laat jou oë oor die lugruim gaan,
na planete, sterre en die maan.
Twee: Die helderste ster is Ra, die son,
die aarde se warmte- en energiebron.
Drie: Observeer nou die maan se skelm baan,
hoe hy tussen jou kyk en die son deurgaan.
Merk jy die verduistering wat nou gebeur,
hoe geslepe bewegings die daglig verkleur?
Shame, dit was toe maar net 'n kamma-eklips,
'n terminale duister, noodlottige glips.
Van ure lank net die son dophou
is ons retinas pigmenteeld geknou.

Verstaan jy die trane in my smart? Al wat ek nou sien, is net swart.
