Wium van Zyl and Abraham de Vries talk about

Wium van Zyl wrote his MA thesis on the poetry of Boerneef, obtained a
'doctorandus' at the University of Utrecht, Holland and a D Litt from
Stellenbosch
University with a thesis on W. F. Hermans. He is professor of Dutch and
Afrikaans at the University of Western Cape, head of the department and also
serves as chairman of the Cape Forum of Nederlandistik. In recent years he
visited as guest professor several European universities.
He contributed to books and compilations as editor published articles on oral literature, W.F.Hermans, Anton Tscheschow, Willem
Elsschot, Frederik van Eeden, C. Louis Leipoldt, Sheila Cussons and the
didactik of teaching Dutch Literature in South Africa. Presently he works on
comparisons between Dutch and Afrikaans literatures.
His poems appeared in collections, including Jan Van Luxemburg Over Literatuur, André P.Brink Groot Verseboek, Ronel Foster and Louise Viljoen Poskaarte and Gerrit Komrij Die Afrikaanse Poësie in 1001 gedigte. Some of his short stories were included in G.A.Jooste Taxi, A.H. de Vries Uit die kontreie vandaan and others.
Wium van Zyl is married to Dorothea van Zyl, professor at Stellenbosch
University and founder and organiser of the famous Stellenbosch Woordfees. They
have three daughters.
