This beautiful house, adorned with magnificent baroque gables, was built in 1771 by Jan Hoffman, not by Adam Tas, who had in fact owned the farm and had a homestead north of the Eerste river, close to the site of the Stellenbosch Farmers Winery (now Distell). The interior contains some frescoes believed to be the work of Jan Adam Hartmann of about 1790 and a fireplace concealed behind teak-panelled doors. There is an old family burial-ground near the entrance of the property.
